We present Dr. Patricia Sullivan, professor of history and Afro-American Studies at the University of South Carolina, speaking about her book "Lift Every Voice: The NAACP and the Making of the Civil Rights Movement". 


The book was published in 2009 by The New Press on the 100th anniversary of the founding of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People.


Also we hear East Hampton architect Bill Chaleff reading Langston Hughes’ poem ‘Freedom’s Plow’ from Opportunity published in 1943.
